The Welsh police have a new off roader and an estate car on police trial, the ST estate coming to Cumbria for testing by our officers after Wales has done with it .

A Ford Ranger Raptor to be precise.

Kinja'd!!!

oh, and Ford Focus ST estates.

I like how your cop cars are painted for high visibility and not stalking speeders.

I'm assuming that the Raptor is the 2.0 litre diesel with the 10 speed auto? I'm also curious whether it has the fancy suspension that Oz spec one does or whether it's akin to our XLT or Wildtrak trims (both of which can be had with the Raptor driveline).

Yep: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battenburg_markings

I’d much prefer markings for visibility rather than the opposite, or just trying to look badass.

They are covered in the most part with highly reflective livery.

The livery is part of it.

Speeders pi55 me off so much.

Which is why I get so pi55ed off with people saying police are cash generators because they got caught speeding.

Seriously, you got caught speeding by a highly visible (during the day and night) police car or by a mobile speed camera (which has it’s locations given online, by the police) or fixed speed camera (which also has it’s positions stated and on sat navs).

If your getting caught speeding you should also be fined for driving whilst impaired by stupidity and lack of attention.

Ye’, it’s a 2.0 diesel, 105mph top speed,

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/ford-ranger-raptor-be-trialled-uk-police-forces

Fox shock absorbers and Baja desert race mode aim to improve the police’s ability to chase criminals across rural terrain.

There was a thread on the FP a few years ago where people were defending speeding and bitching about getting caught. I replied that if you just go the speed limit, you’ve got nothing to worry about. I got totally flamed for that, but I don’t care.

I will say, though, that when I see no cops on a major NS thoroughfare during the week, an then I seen them working it on a slow Sunday morning with no traffic, I have to question whether it really is about safety. I understand that the law is the law, 24/7, but if it was really about safety they’d be patrolling at all hours on all days.

I’m with you on mobile sp eed cam eras. They don’t dayglo mark them over here, but even so they’re pretty distinctive. If you weren’t payi ng enough attention to notice the dirty great van with the camera in the back window in time to slow down , you weren’t paying enough attention to noti c e the little kid who ran out fro m behind it in time to avoid kill ing them.

Ye’, I remember that one. The stupid stuff being said was, ‘just shoot me now’ idiotic.

Patrolling isn’ t just speeding. It’s looking for distracted driving, driving without due care and attention, driving whilst impaired (eg drugs or alcohol), there maybe a ‘marker’ on the car (eg the driver has been known to carry drugs either to use or intent to supply), also criminals use main highways for what we call, ‘jurisdiction crimes’, in that they use the motorway/interstate to travel from where they live, to another county to do a crime and then leave.

It also depends on the police for, here we have city police, rural police (who deal with countryside related crimes such as farming equipment or livestock being stolen, motorways (RPUs) Road Policing Units (who actively look for u nsafe vehicles, vehicles driving erratically, damaged road surfaces, broken down cars, hazards in the road, etc... ARVs (Armed Response Units), anti terror units, etc...

At the same extent you may not see any units because they are assisting elsewhere (mutual aid) to another officer or neighbouring police force, etc...

It may be difficult to nick a police car under the nose of a police force.

Were getting the ST estate up here in Cumbria next for testing. We won’t be t rialing the Raptor as were just go t some Toyota Hiluxs.

Kinja'd!!!

Can’t you just get a Raptor over there and get it liveried. There is a company (PVL) in New York that does a BMW 3 Series London Metropolitan Police Charity each year for the New York run.
